What Content Should You Add To Your Website?

A website is simply a storage space for content. Through effective design and structure, they are able to communicate a whole host of information to visitors, and help them on their search for what they are looking for. But, what content should you add to your website? What content is going to work well? In this blog post, we are going to be going over different types of content that your website should include, so you don’t have to play the content guessing game and shoot in the dark when it comes to giving your visitors what they need.

What Is Website Content & Why Does It Help?

By definition, Web content is the textual, visual, or aural content that is encountered as part of the user experience on websites. It may include—among other things—text, images, sounds, videos, and animations.

This means that there is a large array of content that you can place within your website, giving you plenty of options to choose from. Naturally, some types of content will work better than others, and some more suited for some websites instead of others. However, in this blog post, we are going to recommend content that is universally beneficial to all websites, no matter the industry or niche of your business.

So, why does content help? Well, it helps a website for a number of reasons. A few of which are listed below:

  • Content provides an effective way of communicating information, and this information can be used to both educate and entertain. When a visitor lands on your website, they are most likely looking for one (or more) of three things- a product, a service or a piece of information. Content is how you are going to display said thing to them.
  • From an SEO perspective, content is a great way to increase the internal links within your website. Linking from one blog post to another or to a specific section of your website is great for transferring ‘link juice’ through the pages of your website.
  • Keywords. These can be considered the backbone of your websites ability to reach search engine users. Content gives room for keywords and keywords are how you can increase your rankings within the search engine results pages. The more targeted keywords on your website, the higher chances you have of increasing website traffic and reaching that heavenly page 1 ranking!

Answers To The Top 5 Questions

First on our list, is the FAQ. The FAQ stands for ‘frequently asked questions’. Think of the top 5 questions that your business receives most frequently, and see if you can provide an answer to each of them within text or video format. If you can, then they need to be within your websites FAQ.

By giving an answer to these top questions, you are going to make it easier for the website visitor to solve their queries and alongside adding more content and keywords to your website, you will most likely notice a decrease in customer inquiries related to those top 5 questions.

Tell Your Company Story

Every company/business has a story, and customers love to hear it. Your story is a way to tell your customers more about what you do and why you do it. A great quote by Theodore Roosevelt reads, “No one cares how much you know, until they know how much you care”. When it comes to business, this couldn’t be more true. Your customers want to know that they are your priority, that you care for them. Telling them about how you came to be and why you wanted to start your business is only going to bring them in closer.

Populate Your Website With Blog Posts

Blog posting is single handedly one of the greatest pieces of content for any website. The reason being because it is full of keyword rich search terms and helpful information. Unlike a website that once created, remains static, a blog is updated regularly and constantly has new content being published to it. The dynamicity of a blog means that once you start to get visitors, they will keep coming back for more if they enjoy viewing the content. A huge benefit of a blog is the ability to create and share localised content. This is content that is specific to your area of operation. You can write blog posts about places to go and things to see in the local area, so when holiday goers arrive, they know exactly what they are going to do and see!

Video Content

Videos are a great piece of content to be using within your website. They keep users on your site longer, they are fast and convenient to watch and they are also much more engaging. For product and service based businesses, videos give you the power to easily show off your product or service in a short period of time and will be easier for the user to digest than text, since there is less competition for their attention.

In addition to the benefit to the user, videos are great for SEO. Videos are shown within search engine results pages and since Youtube is owned by Google, by embedding your Youtube videos within your website, you are only going to increase your chances of getting seen within the search results. Increased exposure equals increased website traffic, so make sure to take advantage of video!

Product Reviews & Testimonials

What’s better than hearing about a business's products or services from said business? Hearing about a business's products or services from their existing customers. Your existing customers provide future customers with the best representation of what they can expect if they were to purchase from you. Reviews build trust and authority and that is exactly what you want to display to your website visitors. You can place reviews and testimonials within the homepage of your website to make sure they are front and center for visitors to find.
