Taxes let you add a sales tax and any other taxes to your rental prices. You control a built-in percentage-based sales tax, and you can create additional taxes that are added to a booking as a fixed amount or as a percentage.
What they are for
Taxes ensure the amounts your customers pay reflect the tax you are required to collect. You can show a single sales tax, or combine it with extra taxes such as a local or tourist tax, and decide whether each tax is a flat amount or a percentage of the booking.
Where to access them
In the admin area, open the Fees & Taxes section and choose Taxes. The page has two parts:
- The Sales Tax area at the top, for the main percentage-based sales tax.
- The list of other taxes below it, where you create and manage any additional taxes.
Sales Tax
The first area is controlled by a Charge Sales Tax switch. When it is on, the following settings appear:
- Tax title – the name shown for this tax, for example "Sales Tax".
- Tax amount – the tax rate as a percentage.
- How would you set up pricing at the back-end – a choice of two options:
- with Sales Tax included – the prices you enter already include the tax.
- without Sales Tax – the tax is added on top of the prices you enter.
A live Example: panel shows how the price is presented to customers under the current settings, covering the back-end price, what appears on the website, and how the checkout total is broken down.
Other taxes
Below the sales tax area you can add any number of additional taxes. Each tax is a row with these fields:
- Title – the tax name shown in reservations.
- Description – an optional description shown to clients on reservation and ticket details.
- Calculate – how the tax is applied, one of:
- Amount per booking – a fixed amount added once for the whole booking.
- Amount per day – a fixed amount added for each day of the rental.
- Percent per booking – a percentage of the booking amount, added once.
- Percent per item – a percentage applied to each daily charge.
- Value – the amount or percentage to apply. The currency sign or percent sign is shown automatically to match your Calculate choice.
Use the Add tax button to create a new tax row, and the trash icon on a row to Remove tax.
How to use it
- Open Fees & Taxes → Taxes.
- Turn Charge Sales Tax on or off, and set the Tax title and Tax amount.
- Choose whether your back-end prices are entered with Sales Tax included or without Sales Tax.
- Use Add tax to create any additional taxes, and fill in their Title, Description, Calculate, and Value.
- Click Save Taxes.
What happens next
- After saving, the taxes are applied to reservation pricing.
- The Title and Description appear on reservation and ticket details so customers can see what they are being charged.
- Your changes are recorded, and you can review them later under History.
- You can add internal Notes to this page for your team.
Important behavior and special cases
- The Sales Tax area is a separate, dedicated percentage tax from the other taxes listed below it.
- The sales tax is enabled by default, with the title "Sales Tax" and a rate of 20%.
- Turning off Charge Sales Tax hides its settings and stops the sales tax from being added, while leaving your other taxes untouched.
- Each additional tax is independent, so you can mix fixed-amount and percentage taxes on the same booking.
- If your system uses more than one language, you can enter each tax's Title and Description in each language.
