Deposit Payment Options

Deposit Payment Options let you decide how your customers can pay when they book a vehicle on your website. You control which payment choices appear at checkout and how the remaining money is handled.

Where to access them

In the admin area, open the Fees & Taxes section and choose Deposit and Security. The page is titled DEPOSIT AND SECURITY and is split into two cards:

  • The left card, Deposit Payment Options, controls how customers pay for the rental itself.
  • The right card, Security Deposit, is a separate setting that controls the refundable deposit collected per vehicle category at pick-up.

The three payment choices

Under Deposit Payment Options you turn each choice on or off with a checkbox. You can enable one, several, or all of them:

  • Pay in Full Now – the customer pays 100% of the rental when booking.
  • Pay Later – the customer pays nothing when booking and settles the full amount later.
  • Pay Deposit – the customer pays only part of the total when booking.

A warning appears if you turn off all three, reminding you that at least one payment option must stay enabled.

Note By default only Pay in Full Now is switched on. The other two are off until you enable them.

Settings for each choice

Each choice reveals extra settings only when it is turned on.

Pay in Full Now

  • Offer Pay Now Discount – gives customers a discount for paying everything upfront. When enabled, you set the discount as a fixed Amount or a Percentage.

Pay Later

  • Charge Pay Later Fee – adds an extra fee for customers who choose to pay later. When enabled, you set the fee as a fixed Amount or a Percentage.

Pay Deposit

  • Deposit payment amount – the portion the customer must pay when booking. This can be set as a fixed Amount or a Percentage of the total.

For any value entered as a Percentage, it cannot be higher than 100%. Amounts and percentages cannot be negative.

Balance Payment Timing

If Pay Later or Pay Deposit is enabled, a second section, Balance Payment Timing, becomes visible. It controls when the remaining money must be paid:

  • Before Rental Start – the balance is due before the rental begins. You can also set a number of days before the rental start date by which the balance is due (0 means simply "before the rental start").
  • At Pick-Up – the balance is due when the customer collects the vehicle. This is the default.

What the customer sees

On the booking website, during checkout, the customer sees a "How would you like to pay?" section listing only the options you enabled, as selectable choices. The first enabled option is pre-selected for them.

  • If you set a Pay Now Discount, the customer sees the discount amount next to "Pay in Full Now".
  • If you set a Pay Later Fee, the customer sees the fee next to "Pay Later".
  • For Pay Deposit, the customer sees the required deposit amount.

When the customer chooses Pay Later or Pay Deposit, a note appears underneath telling them when the remaining balance is due (for example, "Remaining balance due at pick-up" or "Remaining balance due 3 days before rental start").

How to use it

  1. Open Fees & Taxes → Deposit and Security.
  2. Turn on the payment choices you want to offer (at least one).
  3. For each enabled choice, set the optional discount, fee, or deposit amount as needed.
  4. If you enabled Pay Later or Pay Deposit, choose when the remaining balance is due.
  5. Click Save at the top of the page.

What happens next

  • After saving, your changes apply immediately to future bookings on your website.
  • The payment choices and their notes (discount, fee, or deposit amount) appear to customers at checkout.
  • A confirmation message appears when the settings are saved successfully.

Important behavior and special cases

  • When Pay Deposit is enabled, the deposit amount must be greater than zero — you cannot save with it left empty or set to zero.
  • If all three choices are turned off, a warning is shown on the page, but you should enable at least one so customers can complete a booking.
  • These settings affect the online booking / checkout flow only. They are separate from the Security Deposit card on the same page, which sets the refundable deposit collected per vehicle category at pick-up.
  • Values entered as a percentage are capped at 100%, and no value may be negative.
  • The Balance Payment Timing setting is shared by both Pay Later and Pay Deposit.
Important The Save button and editing are only available to users who have permission to update these settings; otherwise the page is shown read-only.

Tips

Tip A common setup is Pay in Full Now plus Pay Deposit, so customers can either pay everything or reserve with a smaller amount.
Tip If you want customers to be able to book without paying, enable Pay Later — and consider setting a Pay Later Fee to offset the risk.
Tip Use a Percentage deposit (for example 20%) when you want the deposit to scale automatically with the rental price, rather than being a fixed amount for every booking.
